ESA wants you: Apply for 2022 YGT

That time of the year has come, and your future may just be a click away. Once again, the European Space Agency (ESA) is opening its doors for all European young graduates, including Portuguese students. With the YGT programme, ESA offers a one-year contract, a monthly sallary and, who knows, the possibility to reach the moon. Suppose you are in your final year of a Master’s degree or just graduated in science and engineering, information technology, natural and social sciences and business — in these cases, this can be the beginning of something unique.  

With the support of Portugal as a Member State, ESA has reopened the Young Graduate Trainee (YGT) Programme, allowing 100 young graduates to discover how space can help solve some of the most urgent problems on our Planet. And if you don’t know it already, this is your opportunity to discover how fascinating the universe is.  

In addition to being an exciting year of discovery, an ESA internship can be the launching pad for a career within Portugal’s and Europe’s aerospace sector, renowned research institutes, international organisations or, of course, ESA. 

To be part of ESA is to be part of the exploration of the universe, work on the conception, design and procurement of satellites and other space vehicles, including robots, or work on emerging space technologies to find solutions to solve complex societal problems. But it also means that you could be part of the team that prepares the launch and operations of ESA’s science missions or the team developing system engineering for lunar exploration.

ESA’s operations are currently spread across seven countries, including the headquarters in Paris; the European Astronauts Centre (EAC), in Cologne and the European Space Operations Centre ESOC, in Darmstadt, both in Germany; the European Space Astronomy Centre, in Villanueva de la Canada, Madrid, Spain (ESAC); the ESA Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN), in Frascati, Italy; the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), Noordwijk, the Netherlands, the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT) Harwell, United Kingdom, and finally the European space Security and Education Centre (ESEC), in Redu, Belgium.
