Portugal Space e Técnico are looking for volunteers for SSP 2022

The ISU initiative arrives in Oeiras this summer. Portugal Space and Técnico will recruit volunteers for the course activities. Volunteers will be able to attend the activities and interact with personalities from the global space industry.

In the Summer, Portugal hosts the SSP 2022 (Space Studies Program), an initiative by the International Space University (ISU) entirely dedicated to Space. Portugal Space and Instituto Superior Técnico (Técnico) are in charge of the organisation of the course and opened the call for university students who want to volunteer at SSP 2022.

The organization is looking for volunteers who can support activities related to information, communication and media technologies, logistics, among others. The program will take place at the Técnico’s Taguspark campus, in Oeiras, and will take place between June 27 and August 26, being possible to take on volunteer work for two weeks, a month, or even for the entire program.

On the other hand, all volunteers can have access to classes, activities, and social events, with meals provided during program activities.

“This is a unique opportunity for candidates who are selected for the SSP 2022 volunteer program, as it will allow them to spend the summer in constant contact with various people linked to space, be it in the industry, the research centers, and the space agencies, all of this on a global level, which could open doors in the future”, explains Marta Gonçalves, Education Officer at the Portuguese Space Agency.

Inspired by Portugal’s connection to the sea, SSP 2022 will focus on the theme of Earth observation, the Ocean, and climate change, with projects and activities developed on these subjects. The program, which has the participation of several national companies and researchers, will include the contact of students with the Portuguese space ecosystem, through classes, workshops, and professional visits.

The Space Studies Program is an intense professional development experience designed for recent graduates and professionals from a wide range of fields. The course is nine weeks and expects to receive around 150 participants from 25 or more nationalities.

The call for volunteering is open until April 30th. Applicants must be able to communicate in English (preferably English level B2 or above) and submit their CV and motivation letter in the online form. All volunteers will receive, in the end, a certificate of participation.
