Portuguese Space Agency holds workshop on the road to the next ESA Ministerial Council

On the road to the next ESA Ministerial Council, to be held in November, the Portuguese Space Agency wants to hear from the national industry and academia. Therefore, a workshop will be held in Lisbon on July 1, 2022.

The European Space Agency (ESA) organizes on November 22 and 23, in Paris, the ESA Council at the Ministerial level (CMIN22), which takes place every three years, to approve the new generation of ESA programmes and the level of funding, which shall shape most of the main priorities of the space sector in Europe for the coming years.

On the road to Paris, the Portuguese Space Agency – Portugal Space is organizing a series of actions to inform and hear the Portuguese ecosystem about the new ESA programmes and map their interests and priorities for the coming years to underpin the preparation of a strategic dossier to support the national position.

In this context, the Portuguese Space Agency holds a workshop with ESA representatives to introduce and discuss the European Agency’s new programmes.

The Paris Ministerial Council is fundamental in defining the future of the space industry in Europe and Portugal. The Portuguese Space Agency wants to reinforce the capacity building of the Portuguese industry and academia, aligned with European aims. Still, the Agency also wishes for the aspirations of the national ecosystem to be reflected in what will be Portugal’s position in ESA’s biggest decision-making forum”, says Ricardo Conde, president of the Portuguese Space Agency. “That is why the Agency invites every company and research institute to join us to have an open and fruitful dialogue on the path Portugal should assume in the coming years.”

This first meeting will be followed by a set of bilateral meetings with entities interested in presenting and discussing their priorities in greater detail, which will take place during July.

The workshop will be held at Teatro Thalia, in Lisbon, in an in-person, and it is open to any entity interested in participating in ESA programmes. However, registration for the workshop and/or the bilateral meetings is mandatory through the Portugal Space website The deadline for registration is June 25.
