The University of Évora is now part of the national offering of Aerospace Engineering courses
From the 2025/2026 academic year onwards, Portugal will have five Aerospace Engineering bachelor's degrees, totalling 230 annual spots. Applications for higher education open on July 21st.
The last five years have been marked by a progressive strengthening of Aerospace Engineering training in public higher education, in line with the evolution of the space sector in Portugal. Following the creation of bachelor’s degrees at the Universities of Aveiro (2021/2022), Minho (2022/2023), and Porto (2023/2023), the University of Évora will launch a new higher education course in the next academic year, joining this strategic movement of academic expansion in an area critical to Portuguese socioeconomic development.
The new bachelor’s degree, already accredited by A3ES for a period of six years, will offer 20 new spots in Aerospace Engineering in the National Higher Education Admission Process, with applications opening on July 21st. With a curriculum geared towards innovation and practical application, the course will have a clear focus on the production and design of aerospace structures and components, as well as robotics. The connection to the region’s business community will allow students to develop final course projects in collaboration with companies in the sector, enhancing their subsequent integration into the job market.
The course is part of the University of Évora’s development strategy and consolidates the work initiated with the creation, in 2021, of the CEiiA Chair in Aerospace Science and Technology, assuming advanced training and research as fundamental axes for the growth of the sector in Alentejo. The bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering joins the existing aeronautics branch of the bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering.
According to the Rector of the University of Évora, as quoted in a statement from the institution, the new bachelor’s degree will not only benefit the Alentejo region. “Aerospace Engineering is one of the areas of UÉVORA’s Strategic Development Plan for 2023-2026, and therefore, this new cycle of studies will be fundamental in attracting talent and consolidating specialised knowledge. Furthermore, it will open up new perspectives for research and innovation, strengthening partnerships with companies and technology centres, both nationally and internationally.”
Ricardo Conde, President of the Portuguese Space Agency, considers that “the new bachelor’s degree from the University of Évora is another step towards consolidating the national space ecosystem.” “It represents not only a qualified response to the demand for talent in the field, but also an opportunity to strengthen the contribution of the regions in the development of a more competitive economy based on science and technology.”
With this new offering, Portugal now has five bachelor’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering offered by public higher education institutions — Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon), Aveiro, Minho, Porto, and Évora — totalling 230 annual spots. This is a clear sign of the national academic system’s mobilisation to keep up with the growth of the space sector in Portugal and Europe.
