Portugal promotes call for Internationalization
of European SMEs in Ghana

[NEW DEADLINE: AUGUST 26]
The Portuguese Space Agency – Portugal Space is opening, together with the AIR Centre, the third of four calls to promote the internationalization
of European SMEs developing Copernicus-based products. After South Africa and Brazil, ten SMEs will be selected
to participate in a presential event in Accra.

After the success of the first and second calls, to which companies from nine European countries submitted proposals, the Portuguese Space Agency – Portugal Space together with the AIR Centre is opening the third out of four calls to promote the internationalization of European Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) developing Copernicus-based products.

This third call targets European SMEs that use Copernicus and are looking to expand their business to Ghana. A total of 10 SMEs will be selected to attend a presential event in Accra that will take place on 26th and 27th of  October 2022.

Participation in this initiative will provide unique networking possibilities to European SMEs, allowing them to gain visibility and expand their business to a thriving African country whilst fostering the uptake of Copernicus data by Ghanaian entities.

Furthermore, this event will coincide with the GEO Blue Planet Symposium 2022, organized by the Group on Earth Observations, which will take place on the same dates in Accra.

Supporting the internationalization of the European companies, Portugal Space and AIR Centre are also contributing so that Africa and South America can take advantage of the countless possibilities Copernicus offers. Furthermore, satellite images and products generated by the program enable value-added services that positively impact several sectors, like agriculture, forestry, resource optimization, and infrastructure management.

In the first two calls, which provided promotion and internationalization opportunities in South Africa and Brazil, 20 companies were selected by the jury, composed of Portugal Space, AIR Centre, EUSPA (European Union Agency for the Space Programme) and local organizing partners.

Nigeria will be the last FPCUP action event destination in 2023. In that country, European companies — to be selected from a future call — will have an exceptional network opportunity to boost their visibility in international markets, leading to the expansion of activity.

The deadline to participate in this Call for the Internationalization of SMEs in Ghana is August 19 at 23h59 GMT.
